Day +133
Hope everyone had a great Fourth of July. Nick had a good time lighting some fireworks and enjoying the freedom of being able to be outside and healthy enough to continue to be home. It's funny how our views of independence have changed since February.
Nick's liver enzymes must still be elevated because they still have him on the medicine to help control the levels. He is still being tested and they are watching all his levels closely. Nick is eagerly waiting for his test at the end of the month that will tell us if his immune system is strong enough for him to go back to school. He really hopes he can start back in the fall with the rest of his friends.
On a different note, many of you have read about another BMT patient that was in the unit with us while we were in Cincinnati. I posted his website in the past and asked our "Team NIck" followers to include Blake LaForce in your prayers. I am deeply sad to report that Blake lost his battle with leukemia at 2PM on Friday the 3rd. I spoke earlier in this blog about how our view of independence has changed since February. Blake and his family will also have a different view. Young Blake (18 years old) is free from all his pain and suffering. He is now enjoying the freedom and comfort of our Creator's loving arms. Blake is Free!!!!

This whole journey has taught me a lot about how fragile life really is. Blake was the picture if health, he was the star football player for his high school. He was the State of Ohio power lift champion, he beat the bone marrow transplant for the first 5 months. At day +397 he is gone.
With all that being said, I hope you enjoyed your celebration of freedom this past weekend. Nick and the rest of our family is celebrating our freedom each day we wake up and feel great. Life's too short, enjoy it a little.
