Day +187
Nick has officially passed the six month mark. Just another hurdle in his long journey. On Friday, we went back down to Cincinnati for his six month check up. Dr. Davies is very pleased with his progress. He is doing well for the six month mark. Nick has to be one of the only kids who went thru the transplant, got out of the hospital in less than two month post transplant, and has not been back. Who says prayer does not work.
He had a bunch of blood work done. The results will not be complete until Monday. So assume that no news is good news if we don't post again on Monday or Tuesday.
Nick did contract a mild case of GVH. It is primarily on his face, arms, and legs. Dr. Davies is not to worried about it. They are treating it with topical lotions. The other set back he had was that Dr. Davies agreed with our doctor in Akron. He will not be able to attend school until at least 2010. Best case scenario is that the flu season is real mild, swine flu does not break out, and Nick continues to do well. If all those things happen, he may get to come back to school after the holidays.
On a final note, Annette, we sure hope you are feeling better. Sorry to hear you have been sick as of late. Our family would definitely like to meet you in person. We look forward to your inspirational blogs. Your words have motivated Nick and the rest of our family more than you know.
Well, lets hope that you don't hear from us for at least another week. (That would me that all the results came back good.) Day 180 (6 months) is gone, next huge hurdle is 1 year post transplant and cancer free. With a little luck and God's good grace, we will clear that hurdle without fail.
